YAHYA DAİ QUINTET
A cyclist, technician and musician (saxophone, Ewi and Flute player). Dai is one of the unique figure in Turkey’s jazz seen for three decades. He was 11 years old when he start playing recorder. In 1981 he had his first saxophone, when he was about the graduate as a technician. He trained himself, than start playing with Tuna Ötenel (well known Turkish jazz musician) in Ankara. In 1990 he joined the “Asiaminor” one of the most significant ethnojazz project from Turkey. In 1998 he moved to Istanbul and established his own funk-fusion quartet, quintet. He played with John Scofield, Marcus Miller, Russel Malone, Kazimierz Jonkisz, Bugge Wesseltoft, Joshua Redman, Lawrence “Butch” Morris… Dai played in with many groups in his country also appeared in more than fifty recordings. In 2006 he started his solo computer music project which named as a “Plan B”. In 2011 he released his debut album “Ümitvar Mavi”. Dai married with two children and seven cats.
