Özdemir Erdogan was born in Istanbul on June 17, 1940. His mother was a classical musician who played piano, and his uncle played piano and violin as well.

İzmir'de yamaha müzik okullarında gitar, bass ve ensemble oğretmenliği yaptı. O dönemde pianist Omur Gidel ile Yamaha Jazz Band'i ve İzmir Jazz Beşlisi'ni kurduve konserler verdi.
