Yavuz Akyazıcı
After cutting his teeth on New York jazz for 17 years, an accomplished jazz guitarist Yavuz Akyazıcı, returned home to Istanbul to convert Turkey’s pop songs into popular jazz, the way American jazz musicians stylized tunes from the Great American Songbook. His albums Turkish Standards Vol.1 and Vol.2, immediately withdrew attention in Istanbul’s jazz scene. These albums also caught attention of NPR News which is the most famous American intellectual radio and he became a guest for an interview. While in New York, Akyazıcı performed in world wide famous jazz clubs like Birdland, Knitting Factory, Smalls, 55 Bar and festivals like JVC Jazz Festival, Baku Jazz Festival, Charlie Parker Jazz Festival, Akbank Jazz Festival with names like Patricia Barber, Billie Harper, Matt Wilson and Eric Person.
