Şirin Soysal
Şirin Soysal, whom music critic Murat Beşer defined as “her songs sound like the soundtack of a movie that stars Edit Piaf, Billie Holiday and UteLemper”, released three albums since 2011 for which she wrote her own lyrics and made her own compositions in chanson, cabaret and art rock genres. She started performing Edith Piaf and Brech/Weill songs. And as the theatre critic Robert Schild says, she’s the first artist to perform Brecht/Weill songs in German since Zeliha Berksoy. Soysal, who performed in festivals such as Ankara Jazz Festival, Istanbul Jazz Festival, Akbank Jazz Festival, Nilufer Municipality Jazz Vacation, Estonia Muhu New Music, was the first Turkish artist to perform in Ahmet Ertegün Jazz Series in Washington D.C. in 2013. She was awarded as the “Best Jazz Artist of the Year” at Bogazici Music Awards in last May.
