Merih Aşkın is a multi instrumanist, composer and vocalist from Istanbul/Turkey. He started to play baglama in his childhood that is an Anatolian instrument and it was the first dialogue and meeting with music for him. That instrument ensured him a strong relationship with all kind of Anatolian music like Kurdish, Armenian and also Bektashi music. After long years with baglama, he started to play Guitar and Fretless Guitar. He met with Erkan Oğur who is the pioneer of Fretless Guitar and worked with him 3 years about technique of Fretless, Anatolian Makam and Microtonal music also philosopy of music. At the same years he worked for a new sound together Contemporary Jazz and Anatolian music. These studies helped him to create his unique technique with fretless guitar -a mixture of baglama-oud- and compose his Jazzy, groovy and melodic songs. In 2013, his first albüm ''Siret'' has released by Kalan Music one of the most important labels in Turkey. He worked with important musicians like ''Erkan Oğur'', ''Derya Türkan'', ''Ayşe Tütüncü'', ''Volkan Hürsever'', '' Murat Aydemir'', ''Cenk Erdoğan'', ''Ercüment Orkut'' in that album. ''Siret'' was a childhood dream for Merih, he sang Anatolian Folk - Bektashi Songs and with his powerfull voice and played multi instruments. After ''Siret'' he did lots of performance some Festivals, Jazz Clubs and Concert Halls. In 2014 He composed music for a theatre ''Hak'' that produced by ''Altıdan Sonra Theatre'' and ''Theatre an der Ruhr'' collobration. He performed on it theatre stages in Istanbul, Cologne, Berlin,Belgium and Luxemburg during last 2 years. He played with Ayşe Tütüncü, Volkan Hürsever, Turgut Alp Bekoğlu, Mircan Kaya, Hüsnü Arkan, Erkan Oğur, Derya Türkan, Mehmet Akbaş..(like lots of musicians) as a guitarist, fretless guitarist, baglama player and arranger in session and studio records. In 2015 December, Kalan Music released his second album ''Terennüm'' that is the new sound, jazzy and groovy style with fretless guitar. ''Terennüm'' was a world music album and explanations of his musical journey. He offered ten songs to the public that includes his 9 compositions a harmony of Anatolian-Jazz with Fretless Guitar and one Armenian Folk song about a tragedy of 1915 that is called ''Gulo''. Also in this album, he collobrated with Ghassan Abu Haltam (clarinet) from Jordan, Hasan Gözetlik(trumpet and trombone), Volkan Hürsever(double bass), Koray Üsgülen(piano), Derya Türkan(classical kemenche) from Istanbul and a great sound engineer from Gothenborg-Sweden, Lars Nilsson ''NİLENTO'' studios for mix and mastering. By the way, famous actress ''Tomris Incer'' who passed away october 2016, dubbed a text '' a story of humanity'' that has written by Merih in ''Terennüm''. Merih diagnoses ''Terennüm'' is not just a music album for him, it is theatrical and poetic that contains his favourites directors, writers, musicians, his family, humanity and also who passed away from his life.Terennüm entranced by it's musicality, inspiration and succesfull synthesis between Anatolian, avant-garde and Contemporary Jazz. ''Terennüm'' opens the big doors all modern sounds together jazz inside high musicality. It is like a movie montage and main idea is melancholy..'' It will be release by Mircan's label UCM Records in a few months.
